"Immediate occasion for organizing the Struga Poetry Evenings, for continuing the centuries-old cultural tradition of this city, was the literary reading of a group of prominent Macedonian writers at the solemn part of the jubilee, held in Struga on July 15, 1961, on the occasion of the publication of the" Collection of the Miladinov brothers ". The idea came that there are all conditions to organize a traditional event with a festival character, which will be held in this city, as a review of poetic achievements in the Republic of Macedonia during one year. "
Jovan Strezovski, former director of the festival and its chronicler.
