One of the greatest contemporary world poets, Charles Simic, passed away on January 9th, 2023 at Dover, New Hampshire, age 84.
Charles Simic was born on May 9, 1938, in Belgrade, Yugoslavia. In 1954 his family emigrated from Yugoslavia in the United States. Charles Simic is one of the most unique poets writing today. Simic’s work has won numerous awards, among them the 1990 Pulitzer Prize, the Griffin International Poetry Prize, the Frost Medal, the Zbigniew Herbert International Literary Award, the Wallace Stevens Award and was appointed as U.S. Poet Laureate.
