Plants remembered the light.
They bent to where the artificial sun had disappeared
behind a sudden cloud. If the light fell on a leaf,
that leaf warned the other leaves.

Fibers carried information, communicated
via coordinated action in the entire plant,
electrochemical signals about the intensity of the light,
about the quality of the rays, from leaf to leaf.

We shone the light only below on the plant, and
observed the effects above
, explained professor K
during the annual meeting of the Society
for Experimental Biology, in Prague.

The effects persisted in complete darkness,
in accordance with our definition of memory.

I thought therefore I was a rockcress.
