Poets

Zoran Anchevski (1954), is a poet, translator, essayist, and university professor. He has published ten books of poems that have received major national and international awards, including Studentski zbor for best first book of poems for Journey Through Broken Images (1984), the most distinguished poetry award the Miladinov Brothers (twice) for Celestial Pantomime (2018), and Puzzled Compasses (2022),  the Grigor Prlichev award for best long poem (2022) for Lives of the Horses, which also won the Macedonian Writers’ Association Atso Shopov Award for best book of verse (2023). Internationally, he received the poetry award Giacomo Leopardi in Italy (2004). For his translation work he received the Grigor Prlichev Translation Award (2001). Selections from his poetry have been translated into more than twenty languages and published in books or in various magazines and anthologies at home and abroad. His most recent book of poetry is Deep Space (2026). He is a member of the Macedonian Writers’ Association and the Macedonian PEN Centre. Lives and works in Skopje, Republic of North Macedonia.
