Biography
Guy Helminger was born in 1963 in Esch / Alzette (Luxemburg) and studied German Literature and Philosophie in Luxemburg, Heidelberg and Cologne.
Since 1985 he has been living in Cologne and working as a writer.
In June-July 2006 he was a writer-in-residence in Hyderabad (India), in February-March 2007 he was in Tehran as part of the project “west-eastern-divan”, in December-January 2008-2009 he was author-in-residence in Saana (Yemen) and in 2015 in South Africa. In 2016 he took part in the art project “Transformation and Identity – Trauma and Reconciliation” in Myanmar and in 2018 in Bali in the Gong-laut festival, a gathering of authors and musicians who wanted to draw attention to the island’s ecological problems.
2012 poetics lecturship at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Together with his colleague Navid Kermani Guy Helminger presents since 2006 the „Literary Salon International“ in Cologne. From 2010-2012 he presented a cultural show on Luxemburg TV and from 2012-2017 a show called DNA.
He has received the Prix Servais, the 3sat Prize, the Dresden Poetry Prize, the Merano Poetry Prize and the Gustav Regler Prize, among others, for his work.
