Biography
Suzana V. Spasovska was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands in 1972. She received both her B.A and M.A at the Faculty of Philology “Blaze Koneski” in Skopje and at the moment she is finalizing her PhD about Orphism and poetry. Suzana has published seven books of poetry – Both Love and Conspiracy (1996), Mortal Letter (2002), Woman Divine (2006); Through the Incense, A Lily (2014), Ash Butterfly (2018), which was shortlisted for the “Miladinov Brothers” award at the “Struga Poetry Evenings” festival in 2018, Тhe Language of Light (2020), for which she received the “Ante’s Gold Coin” award at the international event “Ante’s Quill” in 2019, as well as the latest book Caduceus and Lyre (2022), which was shortlisted for the “Aco Shopov” award of the Association of Writers of Macedonia. In 2002, a selection of her poetry, Mirrors, Goodbye was translated and published in Bulgarian. In 2006, she edited the anthology of poetry of young Macedonian authors, Purple Springs published by the “Struga Poetry Evenings” festival. In 2021, her book on Macedonian free verse, The Freedom of Verse, was published, which is her master’s thesis and which was also shortlisted for the “Dimitar Mitrev” critic award of the Writers’ Association of Macedonia.
Her poems have been translated in English, Italian, Polish, Ukrainian, Bulgarian and other languages. She is the editor in chief of the online magazine for literature and arts, “Blesok”. In 2019 she became member of the Association of Writers of Macedonia. She works as a professional proofreader and a lecturer in Macedonian at University American College – Skopje. She writes and publishes literary theoretical texts about Macedonian literature. This year, her book of literary criticism On the Edge of the Blade was published.
