Biography

Violeta Tancheva Zlateva was born on 25 April 1968 in Borievo, Strumica. She has graduated in Yugoslav literature at the Faculty of Philology in Skopje. She writes poetry, short stories and essays. She has won four awards on the anonymous competition for short story Andrić’s Days of Culture in Travnik, first award for prose in 1991 at the anonymous competition organized by “Gjurgja” Publishing House, the “Miladinov Brothers” Award presented by Struga Poetry Evenings for best book of poetry in 2015, and the “Aco Shopov” Award presented by the Macedonian Writers’ Association in 2018. She has been a Member of the Macedonian Writers’ Association since 2000. She is a member of the Editorial Board of the magazine for literature and culture “AKT”, and the Proofreaders’ Association of Macedonia.
She works as a proofreader at “TRI” Publishing Center, Skopje. She has published the following prose books: A book of the Dream, 1992; Coming back, 1993; On my way to Borievo, 1999; Colourful letters, 2008 (an epistolary novel for children) and the books of poetry: My Picasso, 2007 bilingual edition in Macedonian and English (and a Macedonian – Serbian edition in 2008, Zadužbina “Petar Kočić’’– Banja Luka – Belgrade); Prisoners of silence, 2010; Fiery, 2011; Our story, 2013; A summerless year, 2015 (for which she won the “Miladinov Brothers” Award presented by Struga Poetry Evenings for best book of poetry); The Road, 2018 (the “Aco Shopov” Award presented by the Macedonian Writers’ Association); On the edge of the world, 2021; Time goes by, 2021.
