Biography

Annelisa Alleva was born in Rome, where she lives.

She is a poet, essayst and a translator.

She was graduated in Russian Language and Literature at the University La Sapienza, Rome, in 1980.

Annelisa has published nine books of poetry: Mesi  [Months], 1996; Chi varca questa porta  [Who Comes Through  this Door], 1998; Lettera in forma di sonetto  [Letter in the Form of a Sonnet], 1998; Astri e sassi  [Stars and Stones], 1999;  Aria di cerimonia  [Air of Ceremony] , 2000, L’oro ereditato  [The Inherited Gold] , 2002, Istinto e spettri  [Instinct and  Ghosts], 2003, La casa rotta [The Broken House], 2010, Sandro Penna Prize 2010, Caratteri [Characters], 2018, Viareggio Giuria Prize 2019 and the next one will be Dita di vetro/Glass fingers, in Italian and in English.

Her poetry was translated into Russian: A memoria/Naizust’ [By heart], Puškinskij Fond, 2016; into English: Poesie scelte/Selected poems, Gradiva Editions, USA, 2020 and into Spanish: La casa rota y otros poemas [The Broken House and other Poems], Zibaldone 2022.

In 2013 Annelisa Alleva published a book of her essays and memories: Lo spettacolo della memoria [The Memory Show].

Among her most important translations: Pushkin’s complete prose works in 1990 and poems Poesie d’amore e epigrammi [Love poems and Epigrams], 2018, Puškin Prize 2023; Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina, Russia-Italia Prize 2010 for the best Italian Translation of a work of Tolstoy and an anthology of 16 contemporary Russian poets, Poeti russi oggi [Russian Poets Today], Lerici Pea Moscow Prize, 2009.
